Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Manila

MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - A moderately strong earthquake hit Manila and other parts of Luzon on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The earthquake, which measured magnitude 4.7 on the Richter scale, struck around 10:10 a.m. Its epicenter was located 26 kilometers northwest of Nasugbu, Batangas.
Phivolcs said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, was felt at Intensity 4 in Manila and DasmariƱas, Cavite and Intensity 3 in Quezon City, Pasay City and Pasig City.
The quake was also felt at Intensity 2 in Looc and Lubang towns in Occidental Mindoro and Intensity 1 in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Phivolcs said it was not expecting aftershocks.
Based on Phivolcs' Earthquake Intensity Scale, an Intensity 4 earthquake has this general impact:
IV Moderately Strong - Felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. Light sleepers are awakened. Vibration is felt like a passing of heavy truck. Hanging objects swing considerably. Dinner, plates, glasses, windows and doors rattle. Floors and walls of wood framed buildings creak. Standing motor cars may rock slightly. Liquids in containers are slightly disturbed. Water in containers oscillate strongly. Rumbling sound may sometimes be heard.
